Lillipup – He is sooooooooooooooo cute. THOSE ARE PUPPY EYES IF I EVER SAW THEM.

Excadrill – Excadrill is so freaking cool. I love those giant buzzsaw spikes on his claws and head. He looks like he’s ready to shred his enemy into pieces.

Whirlipede – I flipping love this thing. The colors are awesome, I love the spiky antenna/stinger things, and there’s something cool about its eye watching you out of the center too. I also love Scolipede and debated putting him in this spot, but something about Whirlipede is really appealing to me.

Sandile – He’s so adorable. I love his eyes and his little gator body X)

Archeops – Awesome colors. Based on an awesome animal. I like what they did with the design too.

Emolga – If there’s one thing gen 5 does right, it’s Pokémon that are cute and endearing. Emolga is one of the most adorable Pokémon out there in my opinion. He is just so happy and bubbly all the time! I like his color scheme too, and he takes a creative approach to the Flying type by being a flying squirrel (or something similar) rather than having legitimate wings.

Joltik – Another adorable Unova Pokémon. As cool as Galvantula is, it’s so hard to evolve Joltik because I just want him to stay like that forever! LOOK AT HIS FACE AND HIS FLUFFIES!!

Eelektross – Despite the fact that the gen 6 model for Eelektross sucks, his design is super cool and I love that his markings glow in his fifth gen sprite. Even though an Electric-type with the Levitate ability was my idea first, it’s still cool that he has it.

Haxorus – It’s an armored dinosaur with axe blades on its jaw. Your argument is invalid.

Braviary – It just looks so powerful and majestic. I like the crown of feathers on its head too. Probably helps that I’m a total sucker for raptors XD

===================

NOTABLE MENTIONS:

Samurott - Samurott is freaking awesome and it was really hard to decide whether to put him in the top 10 and who should drop out if I did place him there, etc. In the end, he ended up as a mention but I still love him. Even though I like most other Water starters more than him, I have to admit that he’s probably the most creative. Being a samurai seal/otter thing is frikking badass and his shell horn is absolutely genius. I know I seem hypocritical for liking him despite him having a mustache/facial hair, but it does blend into/fit the design well. They’re a little too long and prominent, yes, but it works.

Scraggy – He is adorable in a silly way. His face always makes me smile and there’s something infinitely cute about him always having to pull his little pants back up X)

==================

LEAST FAVORITES:

Emboar: I have very legitimate reasons for disliking Emboar. This isn’t just a gut-feeling thing where something about a Pokémon doesn’t suit my tastes so I just immediately disregard it. For starters (haha, see what I did there?), he’s overdesigned. I’m not saying his design is BAD or stupid-looking. I just think it’s flawed. There’s WAY too much going on. The colors on him change way too often, the gold swirls across him are excessive and distracting, and he just doesn’t need certain things like the spiky parts coming back over his elbow or the spiky designs over his feet. It’s completely overdone. The best Pokémon designs are simple but effective. Look at Pokémon like Dragonair and Umbreon. Their designs are very simple, but they look great. With most Pokemon designs, less is more.

The other thing about Emboar is his typing. KEEP READING. Don’t disregard this just because every Pokémon fan ever bitches about Fire/Fighting starters! I didn’t have a problem with the other two. Blaziken made sense. He was based on a cock-fighting chicken. It was a really unique and interesting way to put the two types together and the combo worked really well. It was clearly well-received by the gamers. Even though Fire/Fighting wasn’t new when it got to Infernape, it still made sense. Monkeys are fairly similar to humans and they do indeed attack in ways similar to punching or grabbing. Fighting-type makes sense for a monkey.

But Emboar…is a pig. Pigs have nothing to do with fighting of any sort. This isn’t to say that Pokémon are confined to their animal’s natural roles, since we have frogs that can fight, mice that produce electricity, and fish that can’t swim (*cough* Stunfisk *cough*). But there was no reason for him to be Fire/Fighting. Because we already had two starters with this type, making Emboar another Fire/Fighting was a missed opportunity for a different type combination the starters could have had. If the typing had never been used, I guess it kinda would’ve been exciting. But it wasn’t. It was a complete waste of a Pokémon.

Simisear – MORE. F***ING. MONKEYS. Ok, as much as I hate monkeys, I admit that some of the other monkey Pokémon look great. Even though I don’t like Aipom, he doesn’t look too bad. It’s kind of a fun idea to have his tail be another hand that can grab things. Infernape looks awesome, even though he doesn’t appeal to me personally. But the element monkeys from Unova are crap. They look terrible and there’s no excuse as to why GameFreak didn’t try harder. Simisear looks stupid, there’s nothing cool about him, and he’s not even good in battle. Screw you, Simisear.

Simipour – Simipour is even worse. Aside from another boring and crappy body and tail design…THAT HAIR. Or is it even hair? WHAT IS THAT?! The enormous growths on its head look terrible. Why would anyone decide that was a good idea? It’s designs like these that make me question the people that make Pokémon.

Gurdurr – I don’t even understand what it’s based on. Is it just a guy with big muscles and veins popping out of him? Either way, he doesn’t need a big pile of lumps on top of his head. Or a clown nose. *sigh* I don’t understand these designs. (Also, where the flip did he get a girder? Timburr’s log made sense because he could’ve found that anywhere in the woods. It’s no different than Farfetch’d carrying a leek around. But does the log evolve into the steel bar? If so, that makes no sense. If that’s not true, it still doesn’t make sense because that would mean every Gurdurr in existence went and found a girder to use as a weapon once they evolved. And did Gurdurr exist before mankind? If it did, it couldn’t be carrying a girder everywhere because that’s a man-made invention. Pokémon logic. There is none.)

Garbodor – Ok, most people hate him but, like Emboar, I have legitimate reasons. Again, it has to do with design. My inner artist/character creator cannot tolerate this Pokémon. The problem again is wasted potential. I actually like Trubbish. I think he’s cute and, as far as style, he’s a really fun Pokémon. Garbodor could’ve continued on this track but they ruined him.

I actually think the idea is fine. Poison types can’t all be based on venomous animals or it would get repetitive very quickly. They need other “poison” things. I mean, we had Koffing and Grimer in gen 1, which are basically just toxic gas and sludge, respectively. Why not garbage? The inspiration is fine. It’s the execution that’s lacking. Rather than trash, he looks like a pile of cement with bits of colored rock stuck in him. I understand that it’s supposed to be the garbage inside the bag that ripped out, but the design is very lazy. His arms are just blobs of junk with pipes sticking out of them. They have no real shape or form. And it makes no sense to have cement-ball antennae. It was cute and creative to have the garbage bag’s tie on Trubbish’s head, but Garbador is crap. Literally.

Gothorita – It’s SO redundant to say this again but…I hate Pokémon that look like humans. Especially Gothorita. I hate the whole evo line but Gothorita is creepiest in my opinon. I hate the big balls on her head X( (PLEASE tell me Gothorita can only be female…)

Karrablast – It’s really creepy and kinda a boring design. I don’t know. It mostly just freaks me out.

Frillish – Another one that freaks me out. THOSE EYES WILL SUCK OUT YOUR SOUL. Probably literally, considering how messed-up the Ghost-types’ PokéDex entries are.

Klank – The epitome of GameFreak’s laziness. Not only is the design lazy and uninspired but if you put the three stages’ sprites side-by-side, you can see that they’re literally just copy-and-pasted from each other. That kind of crap from a professional game producer is unacceptable.

Shelmet – I don’t like its lips. That’s about it, since that’s half of the design :XD: The helmet part is fine. I just don’t like the insides. It’s crap until you evolve it too, and its evolution process is annoying.

==========================

NOTABLE MENTIONS:

Cryogonal – It’s a floating snowflake….I guess that’s fine….I always prefer creature/animal-ish designs though. The glowing eyes are kinda cool. I hate the weird orbs hanging from his mouth area though. They’re so weird.

Stunfisk – Lol, Stunfisk XD I actually find Stunfisk hilarious. That being said, I find it really sad that it’s weak against Water even though it’s a fish. I’m all for breaking those standard animal role barriers, but I just can’t get over this. It looks dumb too.

Bouffalant – I added a third Notable Mention spot here just for him. I don’t exactly hate him, but I wanted to point out how redundant he is. He is Tauros with an afro. I understand that he’s a buffalo while Tauros is a bull, but their designs are incredibly similar and the color scheme is the same. If this were an added evolution to Tauros, ok. But it's not. There was no reason to create Bouffalant.

Stunfisk is the most majestic of Pokemon.
