What is the worst thing that could happen?

I could lose everything.

Haven’t you lost everything before? Life is a series of give-and-takes, a cycle of losing and gaining. To lose everything one moment is to gain everything in the next. We are continuously being robbed and gifted, being broken and reformed, forgetting and remembering, despairing and rejoicing. If we try to hold onto everything we have, if we try to never lose anything, we will never gain anything either. We will be static, statue, dead. To live is to let pieces fall from our fingertips so that they might fall into place again.

How do we know we aren’t losing something worth more than what we’ll gain?

Tell me: have you ever regretted a chance you took just because you lost something in the process?

Yes.

And have you ever gained something so valuable, so beautiful, that you would lose anything to keep it?

Yes.

There’s an equilibrium. There is a great loss and a great finding. Maybe we’ll lose something we can never get back, and maybe we’ll gain the most valuable treasure in the world. But if we never take the chance, how will we know?

And what’s the best thing that can happen?

That’s for you to find out.
